  COURSE IMPROVEMENTS

Our greens are absolutely wonderful!  If you are tired of putting on "slow, poa" then you need to check us out.  The 10th fairway is 100 percent complete and the new grass is coming on stong.  The playability of the redesigned hole will be tremendous!  We hope to have the fairway opened by the end of May.  Meantime, Hole #1 is doing double duty as both #1 and #10.  Also, our popular "Zoysia Project" will continue until all of the fairways are converted to the new grass over the next several seasons.  If you have not seen the difference between zoysia and bentgrass, you are missing a real treat!  These continuing projects are for your playing enjoyment for many years to come.  We cannot tell you how much we appreciate all the words of encouragement and support as we continue to improve Deer Track!

Folds of Honor Foundation

Fellow Golfers and Patriots,

My name is Jim McDonough and most of you know me as the PGA Golf Professional at Deer Track Golf Course in Goshen, Ohio. I am very proud to be affiliated with the PGA of America, but am prouder still of my service to our country as an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Air Force. Please allow me a moment to tell you about an organization that I have the privilege to be involved with, “The Folds of Honor”.

“The Folds of Honor” was the brainchild of Major Dan Rooney, an active duty F-16 Fighter Pilot and fellow PGA Golf Professional. Major Rooney wanted to prove to our military personnel, both past and present, that their sacrifices would never be forgotten or go unappreciated. From that sincere and simple wish, a foundation was born that helps ensure that families of the fallen will not have to endure alone. My words alone cannot begin to express the many great things this organization does for the “families left behind”. I encourage you to take a few minutes the next time you are surfing the web to visit www.foldsofhonor.com. You will be touched, just as I was, after watching Major Rooney’s brief video. How, you might ask, can you help?

Our local chapter of the Southern Ohio PGA sponsors an annual “Professional Team Challenge”, conducted on select Mondays during our summer tournaments. Several local PGA Pros, many of whom you know, battle it out in the season long competition. Each professional is the member of a 5-person team, with points awarded based on each golf professional’s finish position in the “Team Challenge” events. As a group, our goal is to compete and raise money for the “Folds of Honor Foundation”. Each participating professional has pledged either a set amount, such as $25, or an amount per birdie in each of the designated events. Personally, I have pledged $10 per birdie and anticipate making between 8-12 birdies total, in these five events. In 2012, we raised over $2000 for “The Folds” through the generosity of Deer Track customers alone, and over $10,000 in Greater Cincinnati overall! As you can imagine, I would love to surpass that amount this year! Feel free to contact me either by phone or email if you would like to make a pledge. Please give what you can to help this great cause!

Thank you for your support because together we can accomplish great things!

Major Dan Rooney, PGA Golf Professional

The Folds of Honor Foundation was founded in 2007 by Major Dan Rooney, a former F-16 pilot, golf course owner, PGA Professional and USGA member. A Major in the Air National Guard and a decorated military aviator, Rooney has served three combat tours in Iraq. After returning from his second tour, Major Rooney witnessed a profound situation that drove him to create the Folds of Honor Foundation. Click the video to hear Dan's 2013 message.
